It puts the active in active surveillance.

In the ERASE trial, men with very low to favorable-intermediate risk prostate cancer undergoing active surveillance were randomized to usual care or an intervention encouraging high intensity interval training (HIIT) consisting of 3 weekly treadmill sessions at 85-95% peak oxygen consumption (Vo2) for 12 weeks. Vo2 significantly increased in the HIIT group while actually decreasing in the usual care group. More intriguing, the HIIT group also saw a significant decline in their PSA and PSA velocity. We don’t know, though, if this translates into improved long-term outcomes. | Kang, JAMA Oncol 2021
