45 is the new 50.

There has been an alarming increase in colorectal cancer incidence among people under 50 who currently are not eligible for screening. Given the lead-time bias of colorectal cancer cases, the actual risk for people in their 40’s and 50’s may be underestimated. The USPSTF has updated their recommendations to now recommend screening beginning at age 45 (previously 50). While some screening trials have included people younger than 50, the updated recommendation is supported by 1) the increasing risk of colorectal cancer in people under 50 and 2) modeling studies that support a reduced risk of colorectal cancer cases and mortality among this age group. | USPSTF, JAMA 2021
