Indolent-ish.

What’s the first word that comes to mind when you hear follicular lymphoma? Indolent. This large pooled analysis looks at causes of death among several French and American cohorts of grade 1-3a follicular lymphoma in the rituximab era. The majority were stage III/IV. An interesting split in initial therapy was seen with two-thirds of French patients but only about one-third of American patients receiving upfront immuno-chemotherapy. Among Americans, another one-third received observation alone. At 10 years, the cumulative incidence of cancer death was 10% with another 3% succumbing to treatment-related toxicity, mostly infection and myeloid neoplasia. TBL: Roughly half of all deaths occurring in the decade after a diagnosis of low-grade follicular lymphoma are due to lymphoma. | Sarkozy, J Clin Oncol 2018
