When it comes to medical malpractice trends, radiation oncology fares about the same as it always does—with no one really knowing much about it. This national database includes close to one-third of all closed malpractice cases in the US and offers a rare glimpse into the practices that put rad oncs in legal jeopardy. In the decade from 2005-2014 there were roughly ten cases per year naming a rad onc as a primary defendant. In the end, five cases over ten years accounted for almost 80% of all payouts nationwide.
