On your marks.

A time consuming part of treatment for breast radiation is initial alignment based on surface marks and then adjustment based on internal anatomy. In this prospective study of patients receiving accelerated partial breast irradiation (ABPI), surface image guidance was slightly faster, had less variance, and a smaller magnitude of translational shift during daily setup compared to setup with conventional skin tattoos. Importantly, surface guidance setup was done without the aid of skin marks or lasers suggesting this approach may obviate the need for permanent skin marks. | Mueller, Adv Radiat Oncol 2023
