Oligo-everywhere.

How prevalent is oligometastatic cancer? This study analyzed 7,000 consecutive PET scans and identified 1155 patients imaged for metastatic disease. PET scans included FDG PET/CT and PET/MR as well as PSMA PET. Over half (55%) had oligometastatic disease–defined as 5 or fewer metastatic lesions. Most (72%) had metachronous versus synchronous (25%) oligometastatic disease. Furthermore, 72% of patients had only 1 or 2 metastases, and the most common metastatic site was bone/soft tissue (41%). Interestingly, oligometastatic disease was most prevalent in pancreatic and hepatobilliary primaries. So, this large series of unselected cancer patients undergoing PET scans found a high prevalence of oligometastatic disease. | Christ, Int J Radiat Oncol Biol Phys 2022
