Rad additions.

For all the advantages of palliative stereotactic ablative radiation (SABR), a noninvasive treatment delivered over 1-5 days typically with the promise of better outcomes than with palliative chemo at the expense of minimal to no toxicity, it is our older patients who often stand to benefit the most. Same goes for curative radiation treatments delivered over less than a week for prostate, breast, rectal, and early-stage lung cancers. It’s interesting, if not shocking, then that when JCO had a recent entire series of publications set aside for “geriatric oncology” any mention of radiation was conspicuously missing. This review is here to remedy that with a summary of the myriad effective and low-burden radiation therapies available for older cancer patients, particularly in the common scenario of poor candidacy for surgical or systemic therapies. | Amini, J Clin Oncol 2022
