Here is a prospective eval of 217 patients initiating intravenous systemic therapy at MSKCC who received daily electronic patient-reported outcome assessments via the patient portal accessible on any device with internet connection. These assessments were specifically designed to flag the healthcare team upon emergence of symptoms that commonly lead to acute care visits (think pain, anorexia / dehydration, nausea / vomiting, diarrhea / constipation, dyspnea etc). Half of completed assessments resulted in trigger notifications (n=7349), mostly due to pain (23%) or changes in functional status (16%). Alerts were color-coded based on severity, with red being the most severe. Importantly, among 630 red alerts, 284 (45%) had no prior step-down alert for the same symptom within the prior 7 days, suggesting daily assessments are important to capture severe symptoms prior to an emergency room visit. | Daly, JAMA Netw Open 2022
