Shocked.

This pilot study of six patients receiving stereotactic body radiation (SBRT) for refractory ventricular tachycardia (VT) explores the use of a proprietary computational electrocardiogram (ECG) mapping algorithm to aid in target delineation. Yep, it’s about as fancy as it sounds. Basically, patients underwent a noninvasive 12-lead ECG test that then projected the VT exit site on a 3D heart model. As confirmation of the accuracy of the model, among 3 patients with VT exit sites known from prior invasive electrophysiology studies, 7 out of 7 computed VT exit sites fell in the same cardiac segments. All patients received 25Gyx1, with half of treatments delivered during end expiration due to cardiac respiratory motion ≥0.6cm (measured by movement of implanted cardiac device tip) or target ≤2 cm from stomach. And further supporting the efficacy of SBRT for this indication, the average number of shocks delivered per patient was 23 in the 6 months prior to SBRT and 0.67 in the 6 months after (two shocks for two patients each). | Ho, Heart Rhythm O2 2021
