Make a decision.

Genomic classifiers for ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) can help us decide when to consider omitting adjuvant radiation following breast conservation surgery. DCISionRT is one such classifier that was developed to predict the risk of local recurrence and the relative benefit of adjuvant radiation. PREDICT was a prospective, observational, multicenter registry study that investigated how DCISionRT affected adjuvant radiation recommendations among 539 women with DCIS. Radiation was recommended for 69% pre-test, and just under half of them had a change in recommendation to no radiation post-test. Among the 31% in whom radiation was initially not recommended, just over a third had a change in recommendation in favor of radiation. This came out to a change in recommendation for 42% with a net 20% decrease in the number of patients for whom radiation was ultimately recommended. | Shah, Ann Surg Oncol 2021
