Pay gradient.

Here is an interesting report on slashes in Medicare Physician Fee Schedule (MPFS) spending during the first half of 2020 across specialities, falling as much as 57% in April and 12% overall—or a cool 9.4 billion dollars in sum. Interestingly, radiation oncology, along with nephrology, saw by far the fewest decreases in payments (6-8%). Surgery and diagnostic radiology, on the other hand, saw overall decreases of 20-22%. Wowzers. While that’s a lot to take in by itself, the latter point may signal a lagged drop in rad onc payments with less cancer screening and procedures. | AMA 2021
