Here’s a retrospective look at a prospectively-generated Michigan-wide database examining trends in the use of hypofractionated whole breast radiation from 2012-2018. Remember, this was officially adopted as the standard across the board only since March 2018. Of over 9600 patients included, roughly 1 in 5 self-identified as non-white. On patient-level multivariable analysis accounting for basically every variable you can imagine would influence fractionation, hypofractionated treatments were significantly less common among black (57%) and Asian (68%) patients than their white counterparts (73%). Further analysis suggests this is due to clustering of certain racial populations at certain treatment centers.
