Overestimating overdose.

Many cancer patients are fearful of much-needed opioid prescriptions due to fear of addiction and overdose. This examination of death certificates demonstrates an increase in risk of opioid-related deaths between 2006-2016 from 5.3 to 9.0 per 100K people in the general population as compared to only 0.5 to 0.7 per 100K cancer patients (i.e., a more than 10-fold lower incidence). | Chino, JAMA Oncol 2020
