Reading between the guidelines.

We’ve known for a while that the readability of rad onc patient materials leaves much to be desired. This study evaluates how three major national organizations (American College of Radiology, American Cancer Society, and ASTRO) have evolved accordingly. Sadly, the number of documents meeting the goal of an eighth grade reading level or below hasn’t improved with time. In fact, readability of ASTRO patient materials has worsened with time, currently averaging reading levels 12 to 16. TBL: Just because we’ve completed 25 grades doesn’t mean our patients have. | Rooney, Pract Radiat Oncol 2019
