It’s all relative.

Relative survival as reported in big population studies can be misleading. That’s because a diagnosis of a certain cancer can be a surrogate in and of itself of an unhealthy (or weirdly, even of a healthy) lifestyle. This SEER analysis reveals five cancers that confer a survival of >100% relative to peers, and we bet you can guess what they are. That’s right: grade group 1 prostate cancer, DCIS, and stage 1 breast cancer, thyroid cancer and melanoma. | Marcadis, JAMA Intern Med 2019
