Age is just a number.

A number that can predict mortality with upfront surgical debulking of ovarian cancer. Among cases in the NCDB, the odds of 90-day postoperative mortality increased 6% per year from ages 47-71, only to then accelerate to 10% per year. There was a similar, less dramatic, trend when debulking was performed following neoadjuvant therapy such that post-op mortality risk for an 85 year-old woman was almost quadrupled after upfront versus interval cytoreductive surgery from 7 → 26%. | Melamed, JAMA Surg 2019
