We all know how important it is to perform counseling on smoking cessation for smokers, but maybe they need a whole lot more counseling than that. In this prospective study of advanced cancer symptoms and coping strategies, active smokers reported significantly higher pain scores and required higher morphine equivalents to control pain. In addition, they were more likely to exhibit maladaptive psychological and pharmacological coping strategies.
