Misunderstood.

Results of non-inferiority studies may be among the most misunderstood of all trial designs. This no-nonsense lit review took two recently published non-inferiority trials comparing open versus laparoscopic approaches to rectal cancer surgery reporting “inconclusive” results (confidence intervals overlapping predefined non-inferiority thresholds), and it asked a simple question: How many subsequent pubs incorrectly cite these trials as demonstrating inferiority of the laparoscopic (experimental) arm?
