Registry game strong.

This one’s gonna get blasted all over the news, so you better hear it here first. A Danish population study (yep, another one) has associated maternal hormonal contraceptive use with increased risk of childhood leukemia (technically leukaemia). Taking a closer look at the numbers, there were nearly 1.2 million live-born kids included and over 11 million person-years for a whopping 606 total cases of leukemia. After dividing cases into lymphoid and non-lymphoid, it was the non-lymphoid leukemia that had the strongest association. What the authors didn’t analyze were the possible unexpected consequences of the birth control fear mongering that’s about to happen. TBL (that’ll never make headlines): “Therefore, it is not a major concern with regard to the safety of hormonal contraceptives.” | Hargreave, Lancet Oncol 2018
