It’s all relative.

This retrospective study of >25K patients across 16 surgical ICUs in Scotland reports that the proportion of all surgical ICU patients with cancer diagnoses is over one in five. Interestingly, hospital mortality and 4 year survival post-ICU stay were significantly higher among carriers of cancer diagnoses, suggesting that, among the things that can land you in a surgical ICU, cancer may not be so bad. | Puxty, JAMA Surg 2018
