Hard to digest.

Germline testing for 25 known pathogenic mutations was prospectively performed on a Ohio cohort of 450 patients younger than 50 with colorectal cancer. Of the 48 with mismatch repair (MMR) deficient tumors, 37 were found to have Lynch syndrome. In other words, they had germline mutations in genes such as MLH1, MSH2 or 6 (which heterodimerize), and PMS2 that all normally encode proteins to fix bad base-pair combos. Bad pairings that, if not fixed, make for microsatellite instability (MSI). | Pearlman, JAMA Oncol 2018
