Breaking news: IBM Watson failed the ABR oral board exam. Despite the hype, artificial intelligence (AI) isn’t quite ready for the bedside. According to leaked internal documents from IBM, Watson has made multiple “unsafe and incorrect” treatment recommendations. Watson, in turn, pointed fingers at its MSKCC training physicians. AI proponents allege this isn’t true AI since it was given artificial case examples to “teach” it to think instead of mountains of raw real-world data with which to generate its own novel solutions. | Ross, STAT 2018
