The future is female.

This is a common battle cry of those who champion movements spanning women’s marches to the #MeToo and #TimesUp social media campaigns. But how far into the future are we talking? Certainly not the immediate future according to last year’s Red Journal report. The stats are pretty shocking: the rate of female radiation oncology trainees peaked in 2007 at a puny 35% of the national resident pool. And it has been steadily declining ever since. There is no one person or policy to blame for the disparities, but every person and patient stands to lose from them. That’s why women comprising the measly 25% of current rad onc residents are joining forces with the trailblazers who came before them to ensure this inevitable future is realized a little sooner.
