On November 13, 2017, 31 million Americans developed hypertension. The culprit? Publication of the newest American Heart Association guidelines. Need to know: the formal definition of hypertension is now a blood pressure >130/80, largely stemming from the SPRINT trial reporting a small mortality advantage with more aggressive blood pressure management. Nice to know: yesterday’s short review of the new guidelines in JAMA.
