An aspirin a day...

...keeps colon cancer away. We all know the saying. But the data is less clear regarding the timing of aspirin (or any NSAID) use in relation to colon cancer prevention. Is it only beneficial prior to diagnosis of adenoma or adenocarcinoma? Or can you start after you already know you have cancer? A population-based study reported in JCO this week appears to show that starting aspirin after having colorectal cancer is associated with improved overall and colorectal cancer-specific survival, particularly if KRAS-wild type. Now that’s something to chew on (but not if enteric coated).
