This comparative effectiveness study captured quality of life outcomes on 551 women one decade after lumpectomy with radiation (57%) or mastectomy with reconstruction without radiation (43%) for stage 0-2 breast cancer. While there was no difference in breast satisfaction or physical well-being, both psychological and sexual well-being were significantly worse post-mastectomy. This is consistent with previous data and should serve as a reminder for every patient to consider her life after treatment because it's likely in either case to be a very long and breast cancer-free one. | Hanson, JAMA Surg 2022
