Oligo-cognition.

This fascinating basic science work sheds light on the largely unknown mechanisms responsible for “chemo brain.” The crux of the matter lies in activation of microglia. This in turn wields damning influences on oligodendrocyte progenitor cells by blunting their proliferation and ramping up their differentiation just to stop it mid-way in a vulnerable stage with messy myelin. The good news? Eliminating culpable microglia reorders oligodendrocyte lineages, rebuilds myelin, and—most importantly—resumes healthy cognition. TBL: Diminishing inflammatory microglia may offer up the first effective therapeutic target for chemo brain. | Gibson, Cell 2018
